Call to Order
President Jim Piché called the meeting to order at 10:35.
Recording of members present
83 members registered on the sign-in sheets.
Moment of Silence for our departed members and safety of our Armed Forces, followed by singing of ‘O Canada’, led by Merla Lawruk.
Approval of Agenda
A motion to approve the agenda, as presented, was made by Marjorie Watts and seconded by Peter Mindzak. Passed.
Introduction of Guests and Ottawa Valley Board of Directors
President Jim Piché introduced the following guests: Jules Arbor – Regional Services Officer; Lianne Morrison & Diana Thubron (Lanark County Geriatric Mental Health Unit); Louise Noble (Alzheimer Society); Becky Phillips (CCAC); along with the current Board of Directors:
- President: Jim Piché
- Vice President/ByLaws: Arthur Etkin
- Secretary: Lynda Smith
- PSHCP/PSDP: Ed Rockburne
- Treasurer: Doug Schoular
- Membership: Larry Palmer
- Newsletter: Judy Buehler

- Regrets: Len Johnston; Larry Gray).
Minutes of last Annual General Meeting
A motion to approve the minutes of the 2008 AGM was made by Ed Chenard and seconded by Auline Hitchcock. Passed.
Business arising from the Minutes
None.
Reports
President’s Report: Jim briefly summarized previous year’s difficulty in completing audited financial report;

- presented and discussed Branch’s 3 new committees: Communications; Policy & Resolutions; Membership & Services. Membership assistance is requested.

Other topics briefed on, included:

- changes to Branch administration; Pension Surplus Trial update; expansion of CPP; RRIF withdrawal amount and National Pharmacare Strategy Plan.

Treasurer’s Report: Doug Schoular presented 2007 audited Financial Report. Motion to accept by Doug Schoular, seconded by Fred Lepine. Passed.

Doug then presented 2008 audited Financial Report. Reg. Service Officer Arbor noted assets in Reserve Fund should be different from previous report. Motion to amend in principle made by Ed Chenard; seconded by Doug Schoular (with corrected version to be included in next Branch Newsletter) Passed. Balance of $20,164.32 was verified correct by Treasurer. Doug Schoular then motioned to accept 2008 Financial statement, which was seconded by Larry Palmer. Passed.
Doug also requested members to switch to dues deducted at source to alleviate Branch’s workload.

Membership Report: Larry Palmer advised current Branch membership stands at 1485 (includes 158 still paying by cheque). Report was included in meeting package.

Webmaster Report: Steve gave a very thorough presentation on revised website. Steve confirmed updates occur weekly, as new information arrives. Branch website is: www.fsnaottawavalley.ca
Open Time
Representatives from: Lanark County Geriatric Mental Health Unit; Alzheimer Society and CCAC introduced themselves and each gave a synopsis of their roles in the community.

Jim then mentioned the free medical equipment bank housed at the Civitan Club here and asked for future donations of equipment. Almonte Civitan has a similar program.
Lunch
Speaker Presentation: DRIVE WISE
President Jim introduced OPP Angie Atkinson (CP Community Service Officer) who provided a very entertaining and informative slide show/video lecture on tips to reinforce good driving habits. Lecture is also available online.
Regional Services Officer and Nomination of Branch Board of Directors
Regional Service Officer Jules Arbor spoke of his role in fsna; then ran the nominations for the Board. Upon call for nominations for Directors, there were none.
Elections – OV Branch Directors & Swearing in
The following Executive whose terms expired, agreed to stand for another 2 year term: Jim Piche; Judy Buehler; Bill Irwin; Larry Palmer; Chuck Parent; Doug Schoular and Steve Fahie. They were duly sworn in by Mr. Arbor.
New Business
There being no new business, draws were held:
- FSNA hats: won by: Catherine Leadbetter; Merla Lawruk; David Hoffman and Bob Ingram.
- Ladies’ FSNA t-shirts: Sandra Dormer and Shirley Clancy;
- Men’s FSNA t-shirts: Art Nash and Stephen Dormer;
- car blankets (donated by Johnson & Johnson): Anne McEwen and Steve Crawford.
Adjournment
There being no further business, moved by Doug Schoular at 2:15 p.m. and seconded by Ed Rockburne that meeting be adjourned. Passed.
