1. CALL TO ORDER
President Jim Piché called the meeting to order at 1:15 p.m. Jim thanked Anita and the Board for carrying on business while he was away.

3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Motion to approve by Ed, seconded by Art, with the following additions: Treasurer’s Report – donation for auditor; Recruitment – mileage reimbursement (Anita).
4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion to approve by Anita, seconded by Bill. Passed.
5. REPORT FROM OFFICERS
President – Jim: As Jim has been away, he has nothing to report.
Treasurer – Len: Distributed a Financial Report for the period March – April 11/05, as well as a ‘Review of FSNA – Ottawa Valley Branch 2004 Financial Records’ from D. W. Staples, Auditor.
Bank of Montreal Acct. – Total Revenue $13,345.87; Total Expenditures $967.53; Balance $12,378.34. ING Direct Acct. $10,036.01. Total Balance in both accounts - $ 22,414.35 Anita motioned that we transfer $4,000 from the ‘Benefit to Seniors Fund’ to ING; seconded by Ed. Carried. Deposits given to Len at the meeting: over $1,000 from Anita; over $2,900 from Jim. Len moved we accept the report; seconded by Anita. Carried. Auditor’s Report: Recommends that, where normally available, expense receipts be provided to support and substantiate expenditure activity. Len moved that we give a $100 honorarium to the auditor; Arthur seconded. Carried. Len distributed ‘Expense Claim’ forms. Mileage at 37.5¢ per kilometer should be submitted quarterly. Len asked Anita and Jim to notify him of any deposits as they are made.
Memberbship – Anita reported that Ottawa Valley Branch has 1,275 members.
Newsletter – Deadline for the summer issue is May 13, for release June 13-24. Jim has a number of articles he will pass to Judy for inclusion.
PSHCP – Ed received a letter from a member re Long-Term Care. The member wanted a copy of the ‘master policy’ so she would know what was ‘eligible coverage’. Ed contacted Bob Lapierre at national office and asked him to contact the member. Ed received an e-mail re mark-up of generic drugs in the U.S. that he passed to Len. It seems that most pharmacies in the U.S. are charging exorbitant mark-ups on generic drugs, except Costco. Len has passed this info to head office in case they’d like to follow up and check the Canadian situation. Then FSNA members could be alerted nationally.
Recruitment – Larry – absent. Anita gave a report on the campaign, from Bulletin to Branches 2005 – 03. Once the campaign gets rolling we will get some brochures to put in federal government offices in our area. Mileage – Anita will submit mileage for FSNA Recruitment meeting she attended on our behalf. Wendy Mackay has resigned.
By-laws – Arthur reported that at the FSNA Regional Convention it was mentioned that branches should get together and renew By-laws. However, no meeting has been arranged as yet. Jim Piché will follow up
Defensive Driving – Joe absent. Anita pointed out that in Bulletin to Branches 2005 – 03, an article stated that branches may be approached to participate in a study to identify, analyze and address issues of injury prevention, quality of life, and independence of older drivers.
6. AGM – Date change to Wed. Sept. 14. Venue – Carleton Place Arena. Time – 10:00 a.m. Speakers – PSHCP if negotiations have been finalized. Other suggestions – Insurance watchdog; Citizens’ coalition for taxes; one or two organizations that are members of Congress for National Seniors Organizations. Board members should come to the next meeting with ideas and contact names for speakers. Wireless microphone – Jim will look into a mic that will plug into any system. There are two mics at the hall.
7. CanDrive Research Program – See Defensive Driving - Anita will alert Joe to the FSNA website for information in Bulletin to Branches.
8. 2005 Recruitment Campaign – see Recruitment. Joe and Larry – what federal departments are in your area for recruitment?
9. Other Business – None
10. Next meeting – Monday May 9, Smiths Falls. Meet at Gerbo’s at 12 noon. Upcoming meetings – Mon. June 6 – Gerbo’s. No meeting in July. Mon. Aug. 15 – Carleton Place to look at venue. Details to follow. Mon. Sept. 12 – Carleton Place Arena.
