August 17 2010 - 2010 Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting for the Ottawa Valley Branch will be held on Wednesday, September 15 2010 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Perth Upon Tay Legion Branch 244. July 13 2010 - Open Letter from National President of FSNA
As you may be aware, on June 1 the President of the Treasury Board announced that the pensioners' contributions to the Pensioners' Dental Services Plan (PDSP) will increase from their current rates, beginning in September this year. Although little surrounding information was available initially, the Ottawa Valley Branch felt that members should be made aware of these changes.
Hélian Lizotte, the newly-elected National President of FSNA, has issued an Open Letter that provides a comprehensive description of the basis for this decision by the Federal Government and its implications for members. To ensure that members can read the full content of this message, the Open Letter is provided as a PDF document on both the Ottawa Valley Branch website and on the National website. Upon reading the letter, you will see that it points out a key factor : the PDSP is not a negotiated agreement. Rather, it is a plan that the government put in place in January, 2001, following years of advocacy by FSNA.

August 19 2009 - Stiffer Sentences for White Collar Criminals
The Board of Directors has reviewed an online petition entitled "Stiffer Sentencing for White Collar Criminals" that is available at http://sswcc.epetitions.net/. The petition was initiated because of the lenient sentences that some corporate criminals both in Canada and elsewhere in the world have received. In some cases these well-known crimes have reduced or wiped out the personal savings for many seniors. The Common Front for Retirement Security (CFRS) is supporting this petition, however the originator is not revealed on the site, nor is there a statement of intent on what may be done with
the petition by the originator. Because of this lack of information, the Board of Directors is not formally endorsing the petition, however many Board members personally believe FSNA members should look and decide for themselves if they want to support the initiative. If you have changed your address, telephone number, or email address, you can now use a web form to update the FSNA records. Select "Update Personal Info and Email Address" under the "Membership" item in the left column.
April 23 2009 - Concerns about the HST
Concerns regarding the legislation for an Ontario Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), and how it could impact seniors and retirees are outlined in three articles:
- a letter from Richard Poersch, National Director Ontario FSNA,
- a web article entitled "Tax Grab or Tax Grant, Ontario Budget 2009", and
- a report by CI Financial Corp.

This website for the Ottawa Valley Branch of FSNA has been updated with a new look and additional information. Numerous links are now available to other websites that may be of interest to the members. These include pension and benefits information, seniors and retiree-specific web sites, and Ottawa and the Valley sports and recreation links.
