Policy

Approval Date: 14th April, 2003

PURPOSE

The primary purpose of the Benefits to Seniors Donation Fund shall be for the funding Donations to Worthy Organizations, which contribute to the well being of both our Ottawa Valley Branch members and fellow seniors, within the Branch area. What constitutes “well being” will be determined by the OV Board utilizing the criteria below;

1. Those providing direct medical attention to patients such as hospitals. Or
   
   
2. Those providing long-term and chronic care. Or
   
   
3. Those promoting and supporting well being and independence of seniors, through physical facilities and programs and through providing services to seniors in their own homes. Or
   
   
4. Those promoting community facilities for seniors.

The amount of funding provided to the organizations shall be determined by the OV Board.

The level of the Fund shall be determined by the OV Board on an annual basis.

The fund has been established at the April 14, 2003 at $2000 by the OV Board.

Terms and Conditions for Donations to Worthy Organizations:

Donations are to be a one-time pledge only and are not to be construed as a continuing commitment. If at some future time it should be felt prudent to provide for a longer-term commitment, it should not be longer than the term of the most recently (re-) elected member of the Board of Directors.

The donation must be to an organization, or to a program within an organization, which benefits seniors.

The organization or program receiving the donation must be seen as one where our members would be eligible to receive benefits if the need arose.

The donation can be for a specific purpose, such as a piece of equipment, for seminars, fairs or conventions where the safety, health or benefits for seniors are the main theme.

Request for donations would not be accepted for general fund-raising projects such as a new building.

Requests for donations for the benefit of an individual shall not be considered, unless through an recognized Charitable organization or agency

The donation should be recognized in a continuing manner with a plaque or similar signage placed on or near whatever material is purchased with the donation. And /or recognition with a photo-op and a chance for press coverage.

Procedure to Process Donation Requests

A Committee of the OV BOD will review all Donation Requests received., The committee will ensure conformance with these Guidelines, and make their report to the BOD. The BOD will make their decision and the award will be announced in a subsequent newsletter and AGM
